MARQUETTE — The Wooden Nickel bar in Marquette has been identified as a potential COVID-19 exposure site, according to a press release issued by the Marquette County Health Department Friday morning.
“Through contact tracing efforts, the Marquette County Health Department has become aware of a potential public exposure to a COVID-19 positive individual at the Wooden Nickel located at 1751 Presque Isle Ave. in Marquette,” the release states.
Those who were present at The Wooden Nickel from 5 p.m. to close on Aug. 25 or 26 are advised to self-monitor for symptoms of COVID-19, according to the health department.
If symptoms arise, the health department recommends contacting your primary medical provider.
Furthermore, in a separate news release from the county health department issued Friday morning, officials said: “With rates of COVID-19 continuing to rise within Marquette County and throughout the U.P., it’s important to remain cautious as we celebrate Labor Day and attend work and school.”
Marquette County had a “significant increase” in COVID-19 cases following the Fourth of July holiday, officials said. To avoid a similar increase in COVID-19 cases following the Labor Day holiday, the health department said it’s important to:
≤ Avoid large social gatherings.
≤ Wear a mask and maintain at least six feet of distance from others.
≤ Avoid going to work or attending class when ill, even with mild symptoms.
≤ Avoid sharing personal items such as cell phones, water bottles and computers.
≤ Practice frequent hand washing.
≤ Avoid physical contact with others.
