Hi Manistee County! I hope everyone is doing great and staying healthy. I had such a crazy week and I am expecting a lot more crazy in the next several months. My family was blessed with two more grandchildren. Our daughter Molly and son-in-law Andrew had the most beautiful twin girls. Sadie Mae and Stella Louise were born on June 3, 2020. They were 6.2 and 6.8 lbs and 19 inches long. I don’t think I have ever been so nervous about anything. These girls went full term and are so beautiful. Their brothers, Milo 3 and Harley almost 2, are so excited to add sisters to their family. Welcome to the world girls. It seems we have been waiting for you forever. We are so excited to spend our lives with you and your brothers. Life seems to be getting more exciting since we have had grandchildren.
I have some news, MCCOA is going to be taking over the Senior Nutrition Program in the fall. NMCAA said they needed us to take over the program due to costs. We are working on this as I write. This is going to be a huge program to take over, but it is so necessary to help homebound seniors throughout the county and to serve all of the congregate meal sites. I hope we will get the public’s support, we will need it.
This week we lost one of our regular seniors. Terry was always so much fun. She had some great friends from the senior center and she loved to play bingo. Terry always stayed positive and made sure all of her friends had a great time. She will be missed by everyone. I will miss her sense of humor. If you didn’t know her you might think she was being sarcastic, but she was really quite funny.
You know, life everywhere has changed because of Covid-19. I can’t tell you how different life will be when we open up. We have lost so many of our regular seniors or a lot of our regulars have experienced some changes in their lives due to the coronavirus. I even see changes in myself from all of this. I pray that we can get back to normal or as normal as possible and we can all gather together again. I have been so lucky to be able to hang out with some of the coolest people in the world.
We have been really working to get the food banks and produce food banks together. If you are struggling with food insecurity or haven’t been able to get to the store because of the coronavirus, give us a call to see what we have coming up.
I have something else to share with everyone. I won’t get political, but if we treated everyone equally and loved our fellow man we would be better off. I am someone who has never looked at color, religion or sexual orientation. I was raised by parents who never said a derogatory word about anyone. So, I was lucky, I never thought less of anyone. I always say, if I don’t like you, it is because I know you personally and I just don’t like you. Please, love your neighbor. Don’t treat people differently for any reason and remember we are all created equal.
I hope you have a wonderful week. Please, remember to try something new!
