ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) — While the holidays are typically a time where we tend to eat and drink sugary things, the season can also cause us to stress out a bit.

Doctors say that may have a bigger impact on our bladder health than you might think.

Urologists say eating better and avoiding sugary or alcoholic drinks during the holiday season can help prevent bladder leakage or incontinence.

This time of year is also a busy time for traveling. Doctors say if you travel for long periods of time, avoid drinking any kind of fluids beforehand. If you experience any kind of leakage, experts say work on reducing stress.

“Eat healthy, exercise regular exercise and use any sort of stress reduction tecniques like yoga, meditation or acupuncture,” says Dr. Daniel Sadowski from Rockford Urological Associates. “All of these are reasonable things to reduce stress and again you may have an impact on your bladder health.”
