Name: Sneha Narayanan
Occupation: Blogger and writer
Age: 29 years
Height: 5 feet 3 inches
Highest weight recorded: 70 kgs
Weight lost: 15.5 kgs
Duration it took me to lose weight: 8 months
The turning point: I had started gaining weight around 2015 owing to my erratic schedule and night shifts. Sadly, doing crash dieting added to the woes. I also tried several different kinds of fad diets but nothing really worked. When nothing worked I decided that enough was enough and it was time I stopped following fad diets. Instead, I opted for healthy low-carb food with a lot of protein and vegetables. I also made it a point to completely eliminate sugar from my diet.
Morning: I begin my day with a glass of lukewarm water
My breakfast: Two scrambled eggs and boiled eggs
My lunch: Two chapatis, a portion of green vegetables, 1 bowl of curd and 1 bowl of dal
Evening: 1 cup of green tea
My dinner: I keep switching between salad and a glass of milk, grilled paneer, cauliflower and tandoori chicken (once a week). I ensured that I did not intake any carbohydrates and only ate proteins and vegetables for dinner.
I indulge in: I made it a point to not eat any junk food, even on my cheat days.
My workout: Walking for an hour every day, without fail
Low-calorie recipes I swear by: Scrambled egg with cheese and roasted cauliflower
Fitness secrets I unveiled: 1) Add one spoon of apple cider vinegar to lukewarm lemon water and drink it an hour before your breakfast.
2) Eliminate sugar and refined flour (maida) from your diet.
3) Strictly count your calories. Keep it between 1000 to 1500 calories per day. A calorie deficit is required for weight loss.
How do I stay motivated? I stay motivated by comparing my fat and fit photos. I have kept one before and after photograph as the wallpaper of my phone. So, whenever I feel like binge eating or junk eating, it acts as a reminder that I will gain weight again and look like that.
What’s the most difficult part of being overweight? As I had gained a lot of weight during my teenage years, I felt unattractive and under-confident. It took me a lot of time to accept and love myself the way I was. I remember that I used to feel very drowsy, tired and lethargic after gaining weight. Also, the dresses in my wardrobe had stopped fitting me and became too tight.
What are the lifestyle changes you made? I completely removed sugar and sugar-laden products from my diet to lose weight and get back in shape.
What was the lowest point for you? In the year 2015, I had gained a massive 15 kilos. As a result, my face was full of acne. It really hurt my self-confidence really hard as I was considered of my the cutest girls during my college time.
