GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) – The Alachua Conservation Trust, in association with Gainesville Health and Fitness showed off their new fitness equipment at Rockwood Park today.
The park, located off Northwest 22nd street in Gainesville is a 1-acre park donated by the Rockwood Family that also contains walking trails, a diverse tree population, and a free public library.
Gainesville Health and Fitness say this was the perfect place to bring nature and fitness together.
Johnathan Ross says, “we wanted to make sure we were a part of donating something that allowed people to take fitness outside. And we were thankful to have a park like this where they have a little library where you can pick books from so you get that mental aspect.”
The Alachua Conservation Trust was able to put a down payment down today for the purchase of Orange Lake Overlook. Tom Kay, director of ACT says they were able to raise over $300,000 thanks to a bridge loan from the conservation fund and over 150 personal donations.
They closed on the property today at 4 PM.
