QUINCY (WGEM) — Local health officials say now is the time to get your flu shot.
They said it’s a good idea to get one before heading to family gatherings this holiday season. They said being inside with large groups allows germs to spread more easily.
“You’re in these small quarters,” said Misty Spilker with the Adams County Health Department. “You know, people are staying at each other’s houses and eating. You’re basically pretty close to each other for a length of times, so it’s very easy when you cough or sneeze.”
Spilker said the flu shot also protects those who can’t receive it.
“Maybe grandma can’t get her flu shot or maybe grandma’s been a little sick lately,” she said. “If you don’t get that flu shot and you don’t know you’re sick yet and you take it to grandma. Unfortunately, grandma could get really sick and people do die from the flu.”
They said if you do have the flu, you should call your doctor and stay home.
