Before he outshined No. 3 overall pick R.J. Barrett on Tuesday night, before he outclassed No. 2 overall pick Ja Morant three weeks ago, Bulls rookie Coby White had to go through Kris Dunn.
It was early September, during the team’s voluntary workouts in Chicago, nearly two months before the bright lights and the big stage of the regular season would arrive. White’s mission was to prove himself against the Bulls’ self-proclaimed “dog,” a perimeter pest with the potential to be one of the best on-ball defenders in the NBA.
“He had a tough couple of weeks before training camp,” Dunn said. “Most people, when I get at them and I see fear, they’re done. They’re outta there.”
